Content Marketing

What is Content Marketing

Content Marketing is the creation and dissemination of meaningful, relevant, and engaging content, consistently, to attract, engage, convert, and retain customers

Traditional marketing almost always utilized a mass media to distribute a message. This is what we call today a “Push” strategy.

Push Marketing

A company worked with an agency to create a television commercial, radio commercial, billboard, flyer, et. to push a message out to their customers.

These ads and the mass media used are still relevant and heavily utilized today. Technology like the internet, search engines, websites and social media have created another type of marketing: the ying to the yang of traditional “push” marketing strategies.

Pull Marketing

A “Pull” marketing strategy uses content to draw customers into your online space, and establish a relationship with them. Content is then used to create multiple touch points, which move the customer along through their buyer journey, and then beyond to maintain the hold on their attention and loyalty.

Content Marketing Pulls Customers In

Traditional or Push Marketing is very direct. There is a clear sales message. After all, traditional media like tv, radio, and billboards only capture the customer’s attention for a short period of time. But online marketing methods have the ability to capture a prospective customer’s attention with educational or entertaining content.

Website content is created with the customers and their needs in mind. This content is meant to be on brand and on message, but not always to directly sell or convert a customer. In this type of marketing strategy, mini or micro conversions are tracked – from the first time a customer finds your website, until they decide to make a purchase. It may take 10 to 20 blog posts to convert a customer based on their knowledge, your product’s price point, etc.

This is where we get into strategy – learning about your customers, creating personas and content categories, as well as posting schedule. You can learn more about this below.
