I don’t know your dog personally, but I hazard to guess that he/she’s pretty awesome…because, well dogs are awesome. And they wouldn’t want these things for you. So it’s pretty safe to say that they wouldn’t want them for your business either.
When you’re an entrepreneur, small business or startup, your time is limited. It’s limited because there are so many things that you have to do. Write content to attract your potential customers is just one of many tasks. Because of this crunch, we sometimes fall victim to easy content – the content that is on brand, sells our product, or tells customers why our products or services are different.
Woah there Mags are you saying that you shouldn’t talk about your business on your blog at all? What the fluff?
Not at all. There is a time and a place for that on your website and blog, but there is also room for other meaningful content for which your audience is looking. What kind of content is this? Content that is kind, caring, and helpful – all things your mom raised you to be…we hope.
Let’s look at an example. There is an awesome company who is doing a great job of what we’re talking about. They’re called Northwest Naturals, and their product is nutritional raw dog and cat food. On their blog, they make room or content about their products, of course.
But they also carve out space for other content, that has nothing to do with their products, but supports aspects of their brand.
Why does Northwest Naturals make wholesome, nutritious, raw dog food? Because they care about dogs – your dog in fact, and want the very best for him or her. If they are kind and caring, and want the best, there is a lot of relevant content they as experts can share.
In this post, Northwest Naturals shared the benefits of microchipping your pet, to make sure they stay safe at home with you. They don’t make microchips. They don’t have a partner that does. But they do know that this is an important aspect of achieving your shared goal – the overall wellness of your pet.
Exercise and diet go hand in hand, but Northwest naturals doesn’t lease out dog walkers. Instead, they share relevant content that answers their potential customers google searches. And in doing so, they become a wellness resource for their prospective customers. Here they shared tips and recommendations for exercise per breed and age of your dog.
You can also blend these two types of posts, and create one with a bit of a soft sell. In this post, Northwest Naturals created a post on treat recommendations for a healthy pet, and along with other options, they have included a mention and link to their product.
